INDIANAPOLIS -- The PBS documentary “Slavery by Another Name,” based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the plight of southern African Americans from the end of the Civil War to World War II, will be screened at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

A panel discussion featuring law professors, a state lawmaker and a prison reform advocate will follow the screening. Both events are open to the public free of charge, but RSVPs are requested.

The screening of “Slavery by Another Name” begins at 6 p.m. in the Wynne Courtroom at Inlow Hall, 530 W. New York St. The documentary made its premiere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and was first shown on PBS television stations nationally in February 2012.

“Slavery by Another Name” is based on the 2009 Pulitzer Prize-winning book “Slavery by Another Name: The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans From the Civil War to World War II” by Douglas A. Blackmon.

A panel discussion will begin at 7:30 p.m. Panelists include:

• Indiana State Rep. John Bartlett
• Ken Falk, American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana legal director
• Professor Lahny Silva of IU McKinney
• The Rev. Byron Vaughn, president of Prisoners Reformed United in Indianapolis
• Professor Rebecca Zietlow of the University of Toledo College of Law

The event includes professor Karen Bravo, associate dean for international affairs, and professor George Edwards, both from IU McKinney, as invited guests.
