Herron's annual "Look/See" celebration offers first public tours of expanded fine arts center

INDIANAPOLIS -- Considered the biggest night of the school’s academic year, the annual year-end celebration at Herron School of Art and Design will be extra special this year.

For the public, “Look/See” at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 2, will be the first official opportunity to tour the newly expanded Eskenazi Fine Arts Center, 1410 Indiana Ave. A ribbon-cutting beginning at 6:30 p.m. will recognize the extraordinary generosity of Sidney and Lois Eskenazi, and others, whose philanthropic support made the $3.2 million expansion of Herron’s sculpture and ceramics facility a reality.

“Look/See” -- a party designed for students, friends and family, faculty, staff and guests -- recognizes the achievements of Herron students. The Annual Honors and Awards Ceremony for undergraduate students and their families kicks off the festivities at 4 p.m. at the IUPUI Campus Center, 420 University Blvd.

The 2013 MFA Thesis Exhibition will be in galleries at both the Eskenazi Fine Arts Center and Eskenazi Hall, 735 W. New York St., to showcase pinnacle works by the following master’s degree candidates: Charles Stephen Ellis and Nathan Myles Tommer from furniture design; Michael Hoefle from photography and intermedia; Brittany Marie Ferguson and Dominic Senibaldi from printmaking; Stephanie Barlow, Matthew Boeing and Susana Cortez from sculpture; and Allison Schultz, Ashley Davis, Xu Lin (Jo Lam), Cara Miller, Nancy Vellinga Patron, Jinny Lee Perofsky and Emily A. Stump from visual communication design.

In addition to gallery exhibitions and the awards ceremony, “Look/See” features tours, open studios, and print and ceramics sales. The evening’s festivities also include refreshments and live entertainment by the Rob Dixon Duo at the Eskenazi Fine Arts Center and the Sophie Faught Trio at Eskenazi Hall.

Complimentary parking will be available on the surface lots at both facilities. Shuttle service between buildings will be available throughout the evening.

All activities are open to the public and free of charge.
